Celya Bowers Celya Bowers I was born and raised in Marlin, Texas. It's a small town of about 8,000 more or less. There is something to be said about being raised in a small town. I don't know exactly what it is, but it was something growing up in a small town. Everyone knew your family, so if you did something wrong, the news got home before you did. On the other hand, it's nice everyone knows I write books.

I am the youngest of six children and wasn't able to go many places in my youth, so books became my best friends. So while all my friends enjoyed parties and going to the movies, I got to enjoy books and became an armchair traveler. I still love to read, although I don't have a lot of time, nowadays. Thank goodness for audio books.

I love creating quirky characters and unique situations, I guess cause I'm a little off center. So I like my characters to reflect that. I always see things as the glass is half full. Yes I'm one those happy happy people without the aid of medicine or liquor. I embrace life and who knows where I'll end up. I just excited for the journey. I view mistakes as life lessons and try not to have too many of those.

I am a member of Romance Writers of America, Kiss of Death, Dallas Area Romance Authors, and North Texas Romance Writers of America. I am currently a member of The Sizzling Sisterhood Critique Group.

Sonya BowserSonya J. Bowser was born March 12, 1978, in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Lillian Gatson and Benny Elvin Bowser. Her parents separated when she was 1 years old and her father held legal custody of her. She grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas and Austin, Texas.

As a child, Bowser had a love for reading literature and writing poetry and music. At 3 she discovered an equal joy in singing and began competing in local talent showcases often placing in the top 3 of her competitors.

After graduating from high school Bowser moved to Atlanta, GA to pursue a degree in Mass communications at Morris Brown College. She did her first speaking at Operation Olive Branch at Morehouse college and she later became a student guide on campus and was also deemed the queen of her dorms "Miss SAQ". During this time she continued to stay active in her community and was involved in the community service projects at her college with the inner city youth. She later assumed the title of Fan Club President for her friend and adopted sister thru family ties, Hydeia Broadbent and The Hydeia Broadbent Foundation (which promotes Aids awareness and education to the community).

One year later she took on her first job as a writer and editor for Blackgirl Magazine, which was founded by 12 year-old Kenya Jordana James. She had the privilege to interview Laila Ali, Kyla Pratt and also set up the interview with Queen Latifah. She was also responsible for book reviews and the Child star articles.

After 5 years in Georgia, Bowser decided to pack up and return to Dallas, TX, to be closer to home. Always busy working to keep her artistic soul alive, Bowser was inspired to publish her first book, Learning to Love Me: Self-Esteem for Children in August 2006, which was later revised and resubmitted for a release date of August 2007. This book attests to Bowser’s own personal battles with low self-esteem as a child and the problems that plagued her then and even the problems that plague her today as an adult with low self-esteem and lack of self-love in some areas. She wrote this book to inspire children and young adults to love themselves for who they are; not for who everyone else thinks they should be or even want them to be. Bowser believes that everyone has a choice and everyone has a voice.

Her Motto: The hardest part about being you IS being you!!

Amy CooperAmy M. Cooper inspires girls to love themselves in her debut book Everything About Me Is Beautiful. The main character in this story, Ebony, expresses her confidence and love of self by acknowledging and affirming the uniqueness of her physical features. When faced with being teased at school, Ebony is able to overcome by reflecting on the positive things she knows about herself. This book also encourages sisterhood as it displays healthy relationships between Ebony and her friends. Everything About Me Is Beautiful will empower girls ages 4-8 to be proud of who they have been created to be.

Cooper’s journey towards personal freedom and a healthy self esteem has inspired her to write books that educate, empower and encourage our children to grow into healthy individuals. “It wasn't until I became an adult that I learned that what others called my flaws were actually my beauty marks. Growing up, my hair was a major issue. I got my first perm at age three, and even with a perm I got teased for my nappy edges. My lips were too big, my nose too wide. Today, I have the perfect hair, the perfect nose and the perfect smile. Everything about me is beautiful!” says Cooper. She hopes that each time girls read about Ebony’s dark skin, “extra” curly hair and wide grin they are able to see themselves and learn to feel good about who they are.

Cooper also feels that she has a responsibility to give back to the African-American community. “There are so many negative influences being presented to our girls. The image of the African-American female has been dishonored. I won’t complain anymore. Instead I’ll write books that restore our image and build our confidence,” she adds.

Cooper is a physical therapist who lives in Decatur, Georgia. She continues to learn from the children and youth she encounters as a youth mentor at her church. She’s also been known to “clown” around at special events for children.

Thesina Daniel Thesina Daniel

began writing poems at the age of twelve and as she grew older began to write nonfiction books that help motivate and inspire. Her greatest accomplishment as a writer is to get letters from her readers on how her books have made a difference in their lives. Daniel has been a Christian all her life and she puts God in the middle of all her books and still the books are a page turner. She has authored five books, and her newest book Revelation Has Begun was written after it was revealed to Daniel in a dream on January 6, 2006 that the prophesies of the Book of Revelation had begun to be fulfilled. After having this dream, God revealed to her the meaning of the prophesies from the Original King James Version verse by verse. Her book, God’s Chosen Fast, reveals a different type of fasting that helps one understand living a true Christian life.

Three of Daniel books, How To Succeed Through Your Teenage Years-And Avoid Yielding To Drugs, Teenage Pregnancy, Suicide and Serving Time In Jail, The Family The Home And The Community Preparing the Next Generation to Succeed and Reaching Adulthood Prepared were written for all parents, children, teens and college students. The easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide in these books will help all to succeed. One of Daniel’s books, How To Succeed through Your Teenage Years, is currently being used at several public schools in Florida as a “must-read” for the students. Daniel has made several appearances as a speaker at many public schools. She has coached Soccer and Track & Field for many years and is currently helping to train her son for the 2008 Olympic Games in Track & Field.

Daniel strongly believes the children are our future generation of performing citizens, and we need to do all we can to help them stay focused to succeed. Being a parent in today’s generation is not always easy trying to balance daily responsibilities, a job and finding time to raise children who will succeed. Too many of our teens are in jail, detention/juvenile centers, are teenage parents, committing suicide, strung-out on drugs or die from drug overdoses. Children can’t raise themselves, and the book, The Family The Home And The Community was written as a self-taught guide for parents showing them how to balance their family, job, and household responsibilities. Reaching Adulthood Prepared, is a self-taught guide written for children from elementary to college graduation, showing what they need to do from an early age or at any age to reach adulthood prepared even if there are no parents in the home. The successful strategy Daniel has written in her books has helped many children, teens and parents and has helped her raise two children who are in college. Her son is majoring in Aeronautical Engineering with goals in obtaining a PhD and her daughter is majoring in Biochemistry with goals in becoming a Dermatologist.

Deborah Hill Deborah Hill The Proper Care and Feeding of Your Soul. Description: This book is for those who are seriously searching for meaning and spirituality in their lives (Especially those who have found worldly success without peace). It would be most relevant to teen to fifty-something men and women who are dealing with lingering childhood or familial issues which inhibit spiritual growth, such as sexual or physical abuse. My secondary audience would be those searching for an entertaining, spiritually based and challenging read. It touches on many different subjects that pull together many different spiritual perspectives. It also lends a spiritual perspective to everyday decisions for success.

Why I wrote this book: The process of writing The Proper Care & Feeding of Your Soul was supernatural. Before knowing Christ, I was so unfulfilled although I had everything a woman could want. It began with a burning desire to just write. I wasn’t trying to write a book, just trying to make sense of my existence. I began by trying to record and purge my early life. I was angry and felt superior to those who violated my innocence as a child. I was jaded in my faith in people and their intentions. It just began as a cathartic tool to move forward and find peace. My writing evolved into a temptation of sorts. I began to see the world as conquerable through anger and wanted to plot out revenge through thought and execution. In revisiting the writing, the worst of me became apparent, how I had manipulated all my life. It was a record of survival through ‘martyrdom’ and self righteousness. Ultimately, I was saved by truly seeing myself in the writing and finding redemption through faith. I found faith in the fact that even if I harbored all the negative feelings and attitudes experienced; love was abundant in my life. So this book is a record of living and dealing with anger and finally finding redemption. It is also the culmination of great general philosophies about what the Holy Spirit revealed to me during my spiritual baptism.

Deborah Lintz-Hill grew up in Dallas, Texas. She attended the University of North Texas earning a BA in Sociology. She currently resides in Plano, TX with her husband and three lovely daughters.

K. L. JonesK. L. Jones was born in Winnsboro, LA, on August 10, 1972, to the parents of L.K & Pashion Jones Sr., a mother who did not complete high school and a father who did not make it beyond the second grade with his education. K. L. Jones had always been told what to do, but never how to do, like many of us today. Instead of living a productive life, K. L. Jones, lived a destructive life. On many of occasions, in his life times he became homeless, and lived out of his car as he went from state to state looking for someone, or somewhere, to be accepted. Steadily running from the calling the Lord placed on his life. The Womanizer, whose only passion was to manipulate women and wanted death to claim him, K. L., wrestled with the urge of contemplating suicide daily. It was not until the Spirit of the Lord spoke to him, and the seeds that the Lord had planted started to take root, and grow. K. L. Jones is one of Dallas, Texas, well known authors representing one of the new voices in Christian Literature, Theology and Spirituality. Mr. Jones recently released his sophomore book entitled, Proof of Wisdom. The man who once came from no educational back ground, and no direction in life was given the assignment by God of creating, and teaching a new learning code, known as the Usurpo Metaphysics Code. K. L. Jones continues to exercise one of many of his gifts for the perfecting of the body of Christ, and unbelievers by challenging those to obtain Proof of Wisdom, through Faith, Logic, Judgment, and Obedience to God.

K. L. Jones displays a committed passion to continue to pursue divine purpose, and destiny through his literary and writer's non-profit organization, Beyond the Limits, which is designed to give the opportunity to those desiring a career in writing and publishing the opportunity to learn, explore, and succeed in their dreams. K.L Jones has faced many of life’s setbacks, and disappointments but yet he continues to be a faithful man of God, by continuously giving back to his community, and by having a heart for the people. The man that was once stood homeless, and lived in various shelters is now able to extend a helping hand, by taking in other homeless individuals inside of his home, and the once well-known womanizer is now able to give words of encouragement, and wisdom that invokes change, influence, and power to diversified men, and women of all ages, creeds and nationalities. K. L. Jones, can be heard on various local radio stations, and can be seen on his monthly broadcasted television talk show Proof of Wisdom reaching a four million viewing audience in the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolis, and surrounding areas, and giving readers, and viewers an opportunity to call in and provide feedback directly to him by asking inquisitive questions, as well as receiving thought -provoking, but yet insightful wisdom commentaries that is sure to affect, and bless there lives. K. L. Jones's applicable and simplistic writing style introduces philosophy, theology, and spirituality to those who may not have had the interest to read it. Mr. K.L. Jones currently resides in the great City of Dallas, Texas with his supporting wife, Alexcia Jones, and their five wonderful children, and family Mr. Jones continues to live by his life long motto….. “To know where one can go, he only needs to remember where he has been”

Rhonda Jackson Joseph Rhonda Jackson Joseph was born in Richmond, Texas in 1971. Her earliest foray into writing was during junior high school when she produced numerous romance short stories in which she and her best girlfriends were the heroines. The stories were circulated and garnered quite a following. Thus, she found that romance writing came rather natural to her. Her focus shifted toward horror writing when the elevated hormone levels in her body during pregnancy brought on terrifying nightmares during the scant hours she could find sleep. The dreams demanded to be placed on paper, and she hoped they would then be exorcised. To no avail, as they never completely disappeared. In fact, they multiplied.

Rhonda currently lives in Houston, Texas with her husband and four children. Her first novel, a contemporary romance entitled Call It What You Want, was released by Tea and a Tome Publishing in March 2007. She is currently working on several other novels and a screenplay.

Dr. Mamie L. McKnight

Dr. Mamie L. McKnight Dr. Mamie L. McKnight has three underlying themes in her professional and volunteer career: 1) commitment to family and community development; 2) dedication to historic preservation; and 3) a desire to educate Dallas youth. Dr. McKnight is regarded as a true historian of Black Dallas.

She is founder of Black Dallas Remembered, Inc., a nonprofit organization devoted to the preservation of Dallas heritage, especially the legacy and importance of the African-American community. Its goal is to uncover black participation in the history of Dallas through four areas: structural preservation, research, publication and free educational activities targeting youth.

Perhaps one of Dr. McKnight’s most challenging endeavors revolved around the Texas Department of Transportation and City of Dallas’ planned expansion of Central Expressway. Freedman’s Cemetery, a cemetery for more than 8,000 of Dallas’ earliest black residents (many former slaves), would have been unearthed and destroyed by the expansion. Under Dr. McKnight’s direction, Black Dallas Remembered, Inc. initiated an investigation of the breadth of this historic gravesite. Dr. McKnight played a key role in the coordination, archiving and relocation of graves to help preserve an important part of Dallas’ heritage.

Dr. McKnight is President of GEM-MAC Consulting, a family-owned firm specializing in education, community development, African-American heritage and preservation.

Her organizational activity includes serving on the boards of Friends of Fair Park, the Texas CAN Academy, National Women’s Museum Local Advisory Committee, Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce and the Texas Historical Commission Review Board. She also served as chairman of the Dallas Landmark Commission. In 1999 Governor George Bush appointed Dr. McKnight to serve a six-year term on the Texas Historical Commission.

Dr. Mamie L. McKnight has written numerous articles and authored or edited three books on local African American heritage. She is a member of the Texas Historical Commission, the Museum of Dallas History Advisory Board, and was Founding Director of Black Dallas Remembered. She is the Director of the Juanita Craft Civil Rights House. Dr. McKnight currently serves the University of Texas at Dallas as Coordinator of Special Programs for the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering.

Victoria MurrayVictoria Christopher Murray always knew she would become an author, even as she was taking quite an unlikely path to that destination. A native of Queens, New York, Victoria first left New York to attend Hampton Institute in Virginia where she majored in Communication Disorders. After graduating in 1977, Victoria attended New York University, where she received her Masters of Business Administration in 1979.

Victoria spent ten years in Corporate America before she decided to test her entrepreneurial spirit. She opened a Financial Services Agency for Aegon, USA where she managed the number one division for nine consecutive years. However, Victoria never lost the dream to write and when the “bug” hit her again in 1997, she answered the call.

Victoria originally self-published Temptation in 1997. “I wanted to write a book as entertaining and compelling as any of the books on the market, put God in the middle, and have the book still be a page-turner. I wasn’t writing to any particular genre. I just wanted to write about people I knew and characters I could relate to.”

In 2000 Warner Books published Temptation. “It was a long road before my agent was able to find a publisher. However, it has truly been a blessing.”

Joy, Victoria’s second novel, was released in October 2001. “This is a story about having to make tough decisions when you’re pulled between what you may want and what God definitely wants. Joy reveals how one word from God can change your whole life.”

Touchstone books, a division of Simon & Schuster, in June 2004, published Victoria’s third novel Truth Be Told. “This one is about a woman who just won the position of councilwoman on a Christian platform. But then a dark secret from her husband’s past is revealed and threatens to rip her family apart.”

Victoria’s recent novels Grown Folks Business (Touchstone Books/June 2005) and A Sin and a Shame (Touchstone Books/June 2006) were both Essence Magazine bestsellers. In July 2007 Touchstone Books a division of Simon & Schuster will publish THE EX FILES: A Novel.

Victoria lives in Inglewood, California and attends Bible Enrichment Fellowship International Church. She is also a member of the Long Beach Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Daphne RobinsonDaphine Robinson I am a writer at heart. I've been writing since I was a child. I was an only child until age 10, so I had to find ways to entertain myself. A pen and a piece of paper always provided me with a way of escape from boredom. I also enjoy writing poetry, reading, and cooking (when I have time.) The introvert in me enjoys finding a quiet spot, pulling out my journal, and writing until my heart is content. My extroverted side enjoys meeting new people, talking to complete strangers in the grocery store line, dancing, and engaging in group discussions. I promised God and myself that when I got published, I'd share what I learned along the way. I want to encourage others to achieve their dreams, whether its to be a published author, or otherwise.

In 2007, I'll kick off the motivational workshop, Dream Catchers. DC is a small group discussion designed to encourage people to achieve their goals and dreams. Brotherly Love & Betrayal was my baby for many years and was finally "born" in 2006. I had a lot of fun writing it, and grew right along with the characters as I wrote it. I wanted to explore something that wasn't the usual. From what I hear, BL&B is a real page-turner! Momisms: Mama Never Told Me There Would Be Days Like This! was born as a result of me keeping a journal of all of the crazy things that have happened in the Robinson household after having two small children, more specifically, adding a boy to the household! Between working full time, being a wife, mother, sister, daughter, and God only knows the other titles I hold, I'll be writing Caring What People Think in 2007. Stay tuned right here for the synopsis.

Daphine acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from Winthrop University and a Master of Business Administration degree at Charleston Southern University. She is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

Love Hangover provides a road map for recovery for those who seek genuine and long-lasting emotional healing after a romantic relationship has ended. Scientists define a hangover as the body's reaction to an excess of toxins in the system. It takes time for the body to cleanse itself. In a similar way, once a relationship ends, it takes time for "toxins" such as the burden of shame, the irrationality of anger, and the sting of rejection to leave the emotional system.

Lois SnellLois Snell

Raised in the scenic town of Valliant, Oklahoma, Ms. Snell’s greatest desire was to become a writer. She attended Rose State College in Oklahoma City, citing journalism as her major. A phenomenon occurred shortly thereafter; neither thought nor memories of her passion for writing came to mind. Blessed with two wonderful daughters, Twyla and Amber, her focus was on family. Twenty years would pass before Ms. Snell and her pen would become inseparable again.

Once memory surfaced, she began to write at all times. Slowly, she evolved into writing only those God inspired works for which she was born—poetry, plays, manuscripts and songs. Ms. Snell wrote and produced the spiritual comedy, Heaven Home, which received rave reviews. A compilation of poetry written throughout the years became her first devotional book, Renaissance of the Soul. In addition, she designs and produces a beautiful, heart-warming line of Christian greeting cards, Snell Visions Greetings. Aside from writing, Ms. Snell is a powerful motivational speaker.

Lalita TademyLalita Tademy is one of America’s most exciting new novelists. Her first book, Cane River, is a provocative and painstaking reconstruction of the history of one American family. It explores racism and slavery, and the saga of real, flesh-and-blood women making hard choices in the face of unimaginable loss, securing their identity and independence in order to face any obstacle, and inspiring all the generations to come. It has become an instant best-seller, and achieved a remarkable record of both critical and popular acclaim.

Lalita Tademy’s own journey is a remarkable one. Before writing Cane River she was one of the country’s most promising young executives, rising quickly through the ranks to become a Vice-President at Sun Microsystems. Featured in Fortune’s People on the Rise list, as well as Black Enterprise and Ebony, in 1998 she was named an African-American Innovator in the New Millenium at the Silicon Valley Tech Museum of Innovation. But her own interest in her family’s roots, and the ongoing issues of racism and women’s empowerment, plus her love of writing, led her to focus all of her energies on her writing career. America may have lost a great business-person, but it gained an important new literary voice.

Lalita Tademy has a BA and an MBA from the University of California in Los Angeles. She lives and writes in Menlo, California.

Joyce Willard TealDr. Joyce Willard Teal Joyce Willard Teal is a graduate of Prairie View A&M University. She is an award-winning retired teacher. She has taught school in Dallas for six years, but her career path has taken her through New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Virginia where she taught community college and reading/language arts to boys and girls in the public schools. She began writing professionally in 1993 and has had several award-winning poems published. Her first book, It’s O.K. To Be Different, was written for boy and girls between the ages of nine and fifteen, but has universal appeal and is being read by children as well as adults. It is now in its fourth printing, the most recent of which is a new millennium edition with expanded glossary and artwork. Activities for children are included in this edition.

The Point System, a book targeted for children in the middle grades and their parents, was released by Ozark Press in November, 1998. It was illustrated by children in the author’s reading classes at Florence Middle School in Dallas, TX. The front cover of the book also features students in her reading classes. Sister, Its Not Okay is Dr. Teal’s first adult, non-fiction title. Like her other two books, it was inspired, she says, by her interactions with children and their parents as she has traveled and taught throughout this country.

The Yield, another adult, nonfiction, was released in December, 1999. It is about black couples, their failed or failing relationships, and the impact this has on the children who result from these relationships. “This book too,” she says, was inspired by my interactions with children and their parents during the more than twenty years that I have been in the classroom.”

MotorVation, a book of original poems and other writings, was written in response to hundreds of requests for the poems the author has shared as she has spoken to audiences throughout the country. It was released in November, 2002. Don’t Sweat It, Kid, released in 2003, is Volume 1 of a planned trilogy. The three volumes contain 100 topics relevant to the lives of adolescents. Volume 1 contains topics 1-33; Volume 2 contains topics 34-65; Volume 3 contains topics 66-100. The trilogy was written for young people between the ages of eleven and eighteen, (middle grade through high school). It focuses on topics relevant to their lives and discusses positive ways to help them cope with situations they face day to day.

Dr. Teal received a doctorate in counseling from Chelsea University and is the 1998 recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award. The award is sponsored by Shell Oil Company for the National Council of Negro Women. This is a prestigious award that only a few in the profession are privileged to receive. Dr. Teal is married to Prince O. Teal, a retired Federal Dept. of Education employee who is now CEO of his own educational consulting firm, Teal’s Consultant Services. The couple has two adult children. Rodney who is an attorney and Geisel who is a Division Manager for Family and Community Partnerships, one of the three divisions of Headstart. In addition to teaching, Dr. Teal is an inspirational speaker, guest lecturer, poet and storyteller. She also does a workshop for adults based on her book Sister, It’s Not Okay, and a workshop for youth based on the books Don’t Sweat It, Kid and MotorVation.

Juan WilliamsJuan Williams is one of America’s leading political writers and thinkers. He is the senior correspondent for NPR, a political analyst for Fox Television, and a regular panelist for FoxNews Sunday. In addition to prize-winning columns and editorial writing for The Washington Post, he has also authored six books.

With the release of his sixth book, Enough–The Phony Leaders, Dead-End Movements and Culture of Failure That Are Undermining Black America–and What We Can Do About It, Williams has created a national furor and ignited debate everywhere with his point blank analysis of black leadership in this country. He combines a bold, perceptive, solution-based look at African American life, culture, and politics with an impassioned clarion call to do the right thing now and not lose sight of the true values of the Civil Rights Movement.

His previous book, “My Soul Looks Back in Wonder”, presents stirring, eyewitness accounts of history-making movements for Black, Hispanic, and Women’s rights, as well as other successes at creating a better America. Previous books include the nonfiction bestseller, Eyes on the Prize, and the critically acclaimed biography, Thurgood Marshall: American Revolutionary, which The New York Times selected as a notable book of the year. Time magazine described American Revolutionary as a “magisterial” work of American history, and the book was reissued in 2004 with a new epilogue to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s historic Board vs. Brown decision. His other books include I’ll Find a Way or Make One, A History of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and This Far By Faith, a history of the Black religious experience in America– which was accompanied by a six part PBS series. As one of the nation’s most influential journalists, Williams is in constant contact with American political leaders from the President to members of Congress and the Supreme Court. His understanding of American history and his inside access to Washington politics gives him a unique and informed voice as an analyst of current events. In 2000, NPR selected Williams to host their afternoon talk show, Talk of The Nation, and in two years he brought the show’s ratings to record heights. His daring perspectives on American politics, race, and culture are based on his historical understanding, political expertise, and knowledge of diversity.

Prior to writing bestsellers, Williams was a political columnist and national correspondent for The Washington Post. In a 21-year career at The Post he served as an editorial writer, op-ed columnist, and White House correspondent. He won several journalism awards for his writing and investigative reporting. He also won an Emmy Award for TV documentary writing. He was given widespread, critical acclaim for a series of documentaries including Politics–The New Black Power. His documentary on A. Phillip Randolph was featured on PBS.

Because of Williams’ expertise, the President’s commission chose him as the keynote speaker at the start of the Smithsonian Museum’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Brown decision. Williams was also selected as the first speaker in 2003 for CSPAN’s nationally televised series, Students and Leaders. Williams is renowned as an expert moderator. His evenhanded view of American politics, diversity in the workplace, and changing American demographics have made him an ideal host for debates and seminars.
