The Reverend Michael W. Waters is the founder and Senior Pastor of Joy Tabernacle African Methodist Episcopal Church in Dallas, Texas. Named among the top young leaders in America by Ebony Magazine, Rev. Waters has appeared on such national broadcasts as The NBC Nightly News and ESPN Live. His contributions have been highlighted by The Houston Chronicle, CNN.com, The SMU Magazine, and The Associated Press. A regular contributor to the Dallas South News, Rev. Waters’ offerings have appeared in such publications as The African American Pulpit, The African American Lectionary, The A.M.E. Church Review, and Becoming Fire: Spiritual Writings from Rising Generations.

A sought-after preacher and lecturer, Rev. Waters has made numerous presentations before church, civic, collegiate and corporate bodies on topics of interest ranging from Fortune 500 corporate diversity practices to the intersections of religion and hip hop culture. A Doctor of Ministry degree candidate at Southern Methodist University’s (SMU) Perkins School of Theology, Rev. Waters is a two-time, honors graduate of SMU having earned a Master of Divinity degree with Certificates in African American Church Studies and in Urban Ministry and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (Pi Sigma Alpha) and in Religious Studies. Rev. Waters is wonderfully married to Attorney Yulise R. Waters of Dallas. They are the proud parents of Michael Jeremiah and Hope Yulise.
