Saxaphonist david carr Jr has pursued his passion as an artist since he was 12 years old. His stage presence and innovative sound has been compared with such greats as Grover Washington Jr. and David Sanborn.

Richmond Punch
Richmond Punch is a graduate of Yale University School of Music with a Master of Music degree in Viola and Bachelor of Music degree from Juilliard. He performed at the Majestic Theater with the African American Read-in and gospel spirituals at the Meyerson Center as a soloist with the Black Academy of Arts and Letters in a concert in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. He has also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, and Meyerhoff Hall in Baltimore. Currently Richmond teaches, is a performer with and founder of Richmond Punch Jazz Quartet and Mistura String Quartet.

Shakespeare Midnight Echoes
A troupe of seven professional actors present monologues, sonnets and prose of Shakespeare that cross racial barriers and exemplify aspects of the human existence, love and hope.

 

 

Frank X Walker

2pm - 4pm Guest Poet & Poetry Slam
Frank X. Walker is the author of four poetry collections: When Winter Come: the Ascension of York  (University Press of Kentucky, 2008); Black Box  (Old Cove Press, 2005);  Buffalo Dance: the Journey of York  (University Press of Kentucky, 2003), which won the Lillian Smith Book Award in 2004; and  Affrilachia  (Old Cove Press, 2000). A 2005 recipient of the Lannan Literary Fellowship in Poetry, Walker serves as Writer in Residence and lecturer of English at Northern Kentucky University and is the proud editor and publisher of  PLUCK!, the new Journal of Affrilachian Art & Culture. There will also be a poetry slam hosted by spoken word artist Mike Guinn.
