Creating Lifelong Readers Among the iGeneration.
This panel discussion lead by Camille Meyers, PTA President, Creator and Moderator of the P.A.G.E.S Book Club (Promoting Academic Growth and Excellence Among Students) for kids will lead parents and educators down the path of how to foster a young author, and how to encourage a love of books and reading in their child through their own interest and modeling. Panel members include a local librarian, elementary school teacher and Joseph Jammer of Jammer Time Express with literacy programs that make learning fun.

Joseph has a B.A. degree in Theatre/Cinema from Texas Southern University in Houston, TX. Joseph began his professional career with Living the Dream Theatre Company located in Columbus, OH. He toured with the production: “Our Young Black Men are Dying and Nobody Seems to Care.” Joseph has taught children’s theater with Junior Players in Dallas, TX and in San Diego, CA. with the San Diego Junior Theatre. He has over two decade of experience working with children. Joseph’s stories have reached audiences throughout the Texas area through the company Jammer Time Express.
 

Camille Myers.
Camille MyersCamille is currently enrolled at El Centro college in the Teacher preparation program, pursuing a degree in urban education in the content areas of reading and language arts. She is the mother of two beautiful children and the coordinator of PAGES Children's Book Club (Promoting Academic Growth and Excellence among Students.) She also teaches a preschool class and serves as a youth sponsor at Greater Ideal Baptist Church located in Oak Cliff. Camille served as PTA president for Bushman Elemenary School (2005-2006) and community chairperson for the TEPP Club (Teacher Education and Preparatory Program) at El Centro College. She enjoys reading novels, inspiriational literature and writing in her spare time. Camille's favorite motto is: "It takes a village to raise a child."

Barbara Samuels Cambridge, Ph.D., LCSW, ACSW, therapist/social worker for more than 30 years, has observed first hand the effects of early negative messages. Her passion is the development and enhancement of self-esteem in children. Dr. Cambridge knows that words and images have power to imprint behavior. The words and images found in her book, BELOVED, are appropriate for children of all ages. BELOVED provides parents and other caregivers of children, personal affirming messages, which positively acknowledge, validate and celebrate the uniqueness of each child. Designed to be read to the child, the book’s colorful illustrations reinforce and enhance the affirming messages.
